Dear Students,
Welcome to Room 317! I hope you are thoroughly enjoying your summer and are excited to come back to school. I will be working in our classroom very soon, getting it ready for each and every one of you. Your lockers will be labeled when you come to school, as well as your desk, and your room door. Your supply list is attached, and online at TeacherList.com. Our zip code at school is: 02660, then find Wixon, then Mrs. Demanche also Mademoiselle Watson.
We will be working this year on Math from adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percent, and geometry! There are 13 chapters in our program, so expect to do about four pages a day. One way you can help be prepared for math class, is to practice your adding, subtracting, and multiplication facts any time you can!
In Language Arts we will be reading short stories from our text book, and reading novels as part of our literature time. We will be writing narrative, persuasive, and expository writing through our writer’s workshop.
Homework: you will have it. You can expect homework every evening except weekends. You will write your homework down each evening in your assignment book (agenda), check in each morning as you enter the classroom, and sit with a homework buddy. You can also receive daily text messages of the homework assignment! Simply text @demanche to the phone number 81010. It is that easy. Register today and see how easy it is to track your child’s homework assignment or class messages.
Science will involve plant and animal changes, electricity, rocks and minerals, motion, weather, and heredity. Social Studies will be the regions of the country, maps, and some geography. Your Social Studies teacher will be Mr. Dwyer. He and I team teach for Social Studies and Science!
We have snack every day, so please bring a healthy snack each day that is filled with protein, not sugar. I do not know if we have any nut allergies in our room yet, however please do not bring in snacks containing nuts during the first week of school just to keep everyone safe. You are allowed to keep a water bottle on your desk because staying hydrated is extremely important for brain function!
A little bit about myself, I have been working at Wixon since 1989 ! I am married and we have two children as well as a small dog. I live in Centerville, but I was born in Boston. I have graduated from several colleges including Bridgewater State University, Cambridge College and American International College. I enjoy time with my family, running around driving my kids everywhere, watching each of their sporting events and a little piece of chocolate to keep me going! I can’t wait to meet each of you in person, but if you have some time over the summer, I would love to receive an email from you or your family!
Enjoy the rest of your summer! As you prepare to return, please consider purchasing the items listed on the school supply list. If you cannot pick them up, then I will help you get them. The ear buds are for your individual ipad that you will receive during the first week of school!
Happy Summer,
Mrs. Demanche ( DEE-MAN-CH, the last “e” is silent)
